2008-NOV > 4-H SOS Kids Tour Lynch Creek

4-HSOSrevBob Radcliffe led a group of 35 students on an educational tour of the farm on Wednesday, November 5th, 2008.

The 4-H SOS is a 4-H program that has partnered with the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention program, Support Our Students (SOS).

The mission of the joint program is to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for at risk youth during the critical after school hours.  At risk could include youth who perform below grade level, have an unstable home environment, a family income at or below the poverty level, a physical or mental health problem, learning disability, or delinquency.

During the program we have an after school snack, help with homework time, life skill and discussion time and then an enrichment activity. Each month we focus on different enrichment themes such as electricity, the arts and natural science.

This month we are focusing on farm life and this week we will be learning about by-products and weaving. Currently we have more than 50 students enrolled. The programs are run from 3:15-6:00pm at Cedar Creek Middle School in Youngsville and Terrell Lane Middle School in Louisburg.
